A Kabardian proverb says: “Дэмыгъэм л1ыгъэ и1эщ” (Tamga is

honorable).

Family tamga was a classic document of social symbolism, an ancient

relic, sacredly kept by family members and passed on by inheritance from

generation to generation. A family could abandon a street, a quarter, an aul,

but it carried the knowledge of its family tamga through the centuries.

The depictions of ancient tamgas painted with gold and platinum cover the

sides of the plates up to the top.

An ancient Circassian symbol in the form of a spiral with a bird and a fish tail means the unity of water and air elements, cyclicity of everything in our world.
